Bio: My name is Marc Simonetti. I’m living in Annecy, France, and working as an artist-freelancer. After studying in Emile Cohl School in France, I began to work in the artisitic field as a background 3D artist for the video game industry, working for wide screen games and eden games. Then I started working in 2D only, making cover arts for magazines and books, working for the main French editors, and for some others like Dragon magazine, or fantasy flight games. I’m now frequently working as a concept artist for video games, advertisements, and feature films.
As a freelancer, I love to handle a large variety of subjects from horror concept art to children cover arts. Each new work is a great way for learn many little things that help me evolving in the artistic field. When I illustrate a book, I try to make each illustration as close as possible to the text, starting directly in colors or with a draw, to letting the inspiration given by the author guide the process. That way it seems that the style fits the mood needed, and it gives quite a wider range of possibilities.
My main references are Sparth, Aleksi Briclot, Craig Mullins, George Hull, Limbolo, Daniel Dociu and Paul Lassaine. It’s important to me to give their names, although they’re quite well-known, as a tribute to thank them. The Internet is a wonderful source of inspiration and motivation, but those artists have somehow, each one in their very specific way, created something that should not be seen in a glimpse.
I’m often on various forums on the net, such as concept arts, cgtalk, and cafe-sale, trying to share my passion.
