This video with Jason Chan is essentially two demos in one. The goal is to be able to create concepts and sketches quickly, whether for practicing skills, meeting deadlines, or presenting a proposal to a potential client.

The first part, Dream Devourer, was recorded in front of a live audience at the 2008 Revelations workshop, with the theme randomly chosen by an audience member. The second sketch is a female sword-wielding character. Each is painted digitally using Photoshop. Jason starts each sketch by laying down monotone values to create a composition with instant impact, always stressing the need to design a viable concept from the get-go. Color, atmosphere, and environment follows.

We’ve seen all of the Jason Chan videos, and the instructional value is top-notch, with helpful commentary throughout. These constitute a vital reference in our own video library.

Download from dvd.massiveblack.com. Includes a 1 hour Quicktime movie and two Photoshop .PSDs.
